Welcome

The project ‘Pranjal’ started in early 2009 with a GOAL to create an enabling environment for underprivileged children and those children at risk through a range of sustainable and reliable services that will mitigate the impact of social marginalization and economic burden and enhance the quality of their life. The project is currently providing services to 21 children between the ages of 4 years to 18 years. As these children reach the age of 18 years they will be given all the support they need for mainstreaming through referrals and networking with relevant service providers including educational institutions, technical training providers etc.

The three basic needs of life, namely, food, clothing and shelter are taken care of by this unit. The Pranjal authorities also take proper care of the grooming of the individual like personal hygiene, neatness, tidiness, good manners, good behavior, etc. The children participate in different cultural activities both in their own unit and outside.

Home for Under Privileged Children

PRANJAL’s children have done very well academically, in sports and in extracurricular activities as well. Many of the children are involved in handicrafts like, greetings card making, pot painting, etc. which will be marketed by the project to create an income generation for self-sustainability. A few children who were addicted to drugs were successfully detoxified with professional treatment, care and support. With the services of a pediatrician, the project provides routine medical health check-ups of the children. Medicines for primary health care are provided free while, routine Immunization, de-warming and other medical services are provided through networking with government health care facilities.

Formal Schooling to build up the children’s cognitive growth, learning abilities and behavioural expressions is also ensured. A special emphasis is given on children’s responses to constraints of basic resources and accordingly addressed with a space for innovative ideas based on children’s unique needs. Pranjal ensures that only trained ‘House Parents’ are appointed to nurture the children during their stay in the home. Life skills-based education enhances the quality of life by addressing issues relevant to the lives of learners (e.g., health, human rights, gender equality, and economical sustainability). They include self-guided and experiential learning (learning by doing), and are based on the natural processes by which children acquire knowledge, attitudes, skills and ultimately behaviors. It can help them to educate their peers about life's challenges and the dangers. They can help others like themselves break cycles of violence and discrimination. These skills include the ability to learn independently, to work in teams, ethical entrepreneurship, civic responsibility and awareness to diversity and multiculturalism.

They need us to Love, and we need them to Love
